Stephen Smith - Confessions from a Church IT Director

Bridging the gap between having a personal blog for fun and giving good tips for things like computer use can be tough. You never really know who's reading your content, and it can be tough to keep blogging when it feels like you're just throwing your posts out onto a busy internet where no one is listening.

This blogger put his thoughts out there from his job as an IT director at a church. Kept it up for a year and then called it quits back in 2008.

Excel2007 slow to open file

Some blogs are just a one or two shot deal.
A quick answer to a commonly answered question, and sitting as a placeholder on the internet if anybody's looking for the answer.

This blog has some helpful tips for Excel 2007. Two posts and done, hanging out there for 6 years.

CovEndNote

Since blogs are free, easy to set up and easy to link, search and archive it's a easy solution for someone who wants to set up a helpdesk knowledge base.

CovEndNote is a help documentation blog for users working with the EndNote software at Coventry University in the UK.
Eventually Coventry stopped supporting the software, so the blog was ended, with a nice clear last post.

Nice to see the blogs that actually end on purpose versus just fade away and are forgotten.

HISTORY OF NHL TRADES

Blogs are a great place to start something special about things you are passionate about.
They can also be a lot of work, and over time many people just don't see the benefit of updating their content anymore.
This blog is a great idea, laying out the NHL trades through history. But they stopped in 2010, probably just didn't have the time or desire to keep updating it.

ben-ohki muyo!! ...easily amused

Personal blogs were pretty popular for a long time.
Can't say if it was facebook that killed them, or if people just ran out of steam?

Bird Lovers Only Rescue

With the simplicity of setting up a website and posting, blogs make an easy choice for people doing things like staring up new ideas, business ventures or charitable endeavors.

This blog ran for a good 4 years, trying to help rescue birds.
Maybe they'll start up again some day.

Project 'Cube 2007

When you've got a cool project to do and you want to announce it to the world... why not start a blog?

This person made a huge subwoofer designed just like a Rubik's cube. Pretty awesome DIY project if you ask me!

THE BOOK DESIGN REVIEW

When it's time for the curtain call, some people have enough respect to bow out gracefully.
This blog author published over 1,000 posts over five years, and when it just didn't feel right anymore he shut it down with a sign off post. Pretty good way to go.

Israel's crimes against Lebanon

Some blogs can be very politically charged.
Whether you agree with the politics or not, you can't against the fact that self publishing gives people an easy way to get their message out to the internet for anyone to see.
